  • Managing the Global Support area of the Autonomous Haulage System (AHS). This revolutionary technology is implemented currently in Chile (Codelco, BHP, Anglo, Glencore), Australia (Rio Tinto, BHP), Canada (Suncor, Teck), Sweden (Boliden) and Brazil (Vale). In this position has overseen three big areas: Support, Deployment and Training. The position requires a strong relation and coordination with the Product Development department (both in Tucson and Japan) and with the regional support teams in Chile, Australia, Brazil, and Canada. Has been able to achieve, among others, the following goals:
  • Successfully led the AHS deployment of Escondida, Suncor, Teck and Carajas, and the upgrades of Nammuldi and Yandi (RTIO), and Gaby.
  • Implemented improvements to the support area establishing clear procedures to manage support requests through a tier structured system. This task required strong coordination with the Komatsu Customer Support Center at Japan and regional support teams.
  • Created, implemented, and monitored all the procedures and documentation related to the global support area to help the company to successfully obtain the ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) certification for the AHS development and support processes.
  • Established a complete training center (including e-learning) in the Tucson office. This center will allow to provide training to our employees as well as our customers.

  • Company Overview: Modular Mining Systems is the world leader provider of mining administration and control systems. Its headquarters are in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Clients of Modular worldwide are about 200.
  • In charge of the implementation and support of the Autonomous Haulage System (AHS.). In this position was responsible, among other tasks, for the following:
  • Quality assurance, delivery, and implementation of the Autonomous Haulage System.
  • Worked closely with Komatsu QA group implementing the QA processes in the testing and deployment phases.
  • Successfully supported the deployment of new releases at the operations in Chile (Codelco Gaby) and Australia (Rio Tinto Nammuldi, Yandi and Hope Downs operations).
  • Successfully managed the deployment of a trial version of the system at Suncor in Canada. Based on the results obtained with the trial, Suncor later decided to implement the AHS in its operations.

Projects and developments include: High Precision GPS applications for shovels, drills and auxiliary equipment, modules, and applications of the Dispatch platform suite, implementation of UHF and wireless communication networks for the Dispatch system.
