Assist Water Superintendent with Backhoe operator training classes as an instructor. Working with Water Superintendent to create and build a Training Academy for new and veteran employees to expand their knowledge and skills.
Executes routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions of the infrastructure or equipment utilized by the water distribution division, act as lead operator for the installation, maintenance, replacement and repair of water mains, water service connections, fire hydrants, valves and related assets, notifies customers of water interruptions, provides input of staff performance evaluations, trains new and existing employees, maintain control of inventory and act a a safety coordinator on work sites, log daily records, operate heavy equipment in support of repair and maintenance work, load and unload equipment along with hauling equipment and parts needed for jobs, operate backhoe, replace and repair streets, sidewalks, and yards after repairs are completed, directs on the job training for Utility Technicians and trainees, accurately identifies, locates and and city water and wastewater infrastructure in compliance with Arizona Blue Stake Law, maintain open communication with internal and external customers including co-workers, residents, contractors and other city employees. Worked out of class as Utility Crew Chief as needed, worked a total of about 3 years of out of class time as a Utility Foreman/ Crew Chief since 2003.
Receive and interpret real time water system data for maintaining water service delivery, order and adjust water treatment plant production rates due to daily water demands, turn wells on or off remotely, adjust flow control valves remotely, respond with emergency water supply situations, maintain SCADA set points for computer controlled wells, booster stations, pressure control valves, storage tanks and reservoirs, controls total water storage levels and pumping and plant production rates, work with Instrument and Control Technicians and Operation and Maintenance Technicians in troubleshooting equipment failures and water system operation difficulties, notify facility supervisors of equipment malfunctions, monitor chemical usage at remote facilities, update ground water production data base, input data into other water system databases not integrated with SCADA, initiates computer generated reports for management, document daily water deliveries, identify and diagnose SCADA system malfunctions, communicate with other cities for daily water orders and delivery schedules.
