Hobbies

Fitness:

This is more of a lifestyle than a hobby. Just like attending Church or brushing my teeth, it's a natural part of my life.   Fitness activities are a scheduled 6 days a week; they are not optional.

Lifting weights/body building and various cardio activities that can be accomplished at the gym have been a stalwart ever since Medical School. The hours required for the classroom, lab and rotations obliterated any possibility of training with a university team:- hence the adaptation to the gym.  Competition helps maintain focus on the mission and demanding constant improvement.

Little did I realize when I was in my twenties, how critical this lifestyle would become in preparing me for the challenges that do occur in later decades.  This discipline has enabled me to overcome significant trauma and several major orthopedic surgeries and return to a very active lifestyle without limitations.

Downhill Skiing

Strictly recreational with the goal of avoiding injury. I so enjoy the crisp cold air and would love to be able to take a trip around the world, staying only at places where I could ski.

Cycling

I picked this up again after several decades when COVID shuttered all the gyms. It is very compelling and I find it difficult to use weather as an excuse not to ride.

Horseback Riding

As a young girl, horses were my passion.  Now they are definitely a hobby.

Golf

Lately, there hasn't been time for golf.  I will resume it again as I spend more time with my brothers and sisters, who are all avid golfers.

Cooking and Sewing

I grew up as a 4H girl, where I learned to cook and sew. Glad I did! Cooking has enabled me to avoid fast food, processed "convenience" foods and a dependence upon restaurants. Most meals can be made from scratch in 30 minutes or less.

Sewing has been a passion as I learned to design and create my own fashions. Sewing inspired me to take up surgery
