Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesSecurity and Surveillance: Conducting regular counts of inmates, inspecting facilities for structural issues or safety hazards, and patrolling assigned areas to prevent disturbances and escapes.
Contraband Control: Searching cells, inmates, visitors, and mail for prohibited items such as weapons or drugs.
Inmate Supervision: Monitoring behavior in housing units, recreational areas, and work assignments to enforce rules and de-escalate conflicts.
Escort and Transport: Moving inmates to and from cells, medical appointments, and court appearances.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining daily logs and writing detailed reports regarding inmate behavior, incidents, and facility conditions.
Emergency Response: Responding to violent incidents, medical emergencies, or fires . Physical and Mental DemandsPhysical Stamina: Officers must be able to stand for long periods, restrain individuals, and perform tasks requiring physical strength.
Mental Resilience: The job involves working in high-stress, unpredictable, and potentially dangerous environments.
Communication: Effective interpersonal skills are required to communicate with inmates, staff, and the public.
