Accomplished Superior Court Judge with extensive experience in presiding over complex criminal and juvenile cases at Maricopa County Superior Court. Served in criminal, family and juvenile deparatments. Presided over 165 criminal felony jury trials and dozens of juvenile dependency and severance hearings. Served in Juvenile Department for over six years, and served as Associate Presiding Juvenile Judge at Durango for two years under two different presiding judges. Started STRENGTH Court in August 2018. Recipient of the Heart of Justice Award from ALWAYS in November 2024 and Game Changer Award from AATN in September 2023, both for work in STRENGTH Court. Served as a Superior Court Commissioner from 2005 until appointment as a Judge in March 2012.
Served in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the Fraud and Public Corruption Section, and was Unit Chief Counsel the last seven years. Managed a unit of thirteen people and a million dollar federal budget. The Unit was responsible for the investigation and prosecution of Medicaid fraud, fraud in the administration of the Medicaid Program, and elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation in Medicaid funded facilities like nursing homes and adult care homes. The Unit was given the State fraud award in 2002, recognizing it as the Outstanding Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Year for the nation. I also was named Prosecutor of the Year for the Attorney General's Office in 1997.
Served as a felony prosecutor in Trial Group A, Vehicular Crimes and the Juvenile Division. Handled twenty-five jury trials.
Presenter at several juvenile meetings and conferences including: Coconino County Quarterly Task Force Meeting August 2019; City of Phoenix Trafficking Task Force Winter 2019; 2nd Annual Human Trafficking Council Symposium January 2020; Juvenile Bench Bar Annual Conference May 2020 and a STRENGTH Court presentation at the Annual Judicial Conference 2022.
