Experienced Roadway Technician employed with the Maricopa County Department of Transportation since April 2006. My 19 years of experience working in roadway maintenance began operating hand/power tools as well as various equipment, such as road brooms, chippers, and chainsaws, to accomplish completion of tasks such as tree trimming, brush clearing, storm clean up,and trash pick up.
Worked as a ground guy on the preservative seal project, also worked closely with the inspector assigned to the preservative seal project, learning how to measure roads for conversion into square yards for ordering of material as well as learning to keep daily logs of the project. Preservative seal is where I spent the majority of my career at Maricopa County. When the preservative seal project moved to the Pavement right-of-way crew, I transferred to PROW following the preservative seal project.
when I arrived in PROW I began to learn how to build and maintain roadway and roadway structures by clearing debris and repairing road surfaces/pavement, culverts, and headwalls. Loading and unloading materials, supplies, and equipment. Operating equipment, which includes a steel wheel roller, sheep's foot compactor, asphalt compactor, saw cut machine, pressure washer, skid steer, etc. Hauling certain equipment to and from the job site, keeping detailed vehicle and equipment logs. Provide flagging for work zones, install and maintain traffic control signing and barricading in accordance with MCDOT traffic control manual and MUTCD standards. Keeping safety in mind as number 1 priority, wearing all PPE provided by Maricopa County in work zones to ensure safety of employees and the traveling public. Work with the preservative seal project, assisting the heavy equipment operator in applying oil to the road, providing traffic control when needed, as well as various other duties, including notification of residents, customer service, moving vehicles parked in the road, moving trash cans, collaborating with trash services and residents for special requests, support on ground(sweeping), and pressure washing equipment.
