Mexican Gray Wolf Project Duties:

Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge Duties:

  • Weekly Integrated Waterbird Management and Monitoring Surveys (IWMM).
  • Conduct weekly Sandhill Crane counts during spring migration, as well as identifying and counting all migrating waterbirds to be reported to the national database.
  • Team lead for highly pathogenic avian influenza sampling, retrieved diseased birds from wetland units, and took swab samples in partnership with the USDA.
  • Input data in Excel spreadsheets for deer spotlight surveys, bird surveys, water quality, and daily weather reporting.
  • Set camera traps along the Pecos River at different sections of the refuge to look for wildlife activity and possible feral swine activity
  • Used ArcGIS and TrackMan to record and map targeted areas.
  • Barb-wire fence conversion: took down the old refuge boundary fence and replaced it with a Pronghorn (antelope) friendly fence.
  • Assist other federal and state agencies with projects such as lesser prairie chicken surveys, or replanting of native cottonwoods along the Pecos River.
